Bloodflowers Show Promotion

The challenge was to design artwork for San Francisco-based The Cure tribute band Bloodflowers for their August 19th, 2022 show. I’m going to preface this by saying that The Cure is one of my favorite bands of all time. I really wanted to put quite a bit of thought into this poster and therefore the challenge became how to pay tribute to their old albums just like the band we were bringing to Visalia.

Collateral for this show also included a 24×36 “black and red” posters, 11×17 posters, which we also printed in the three assorted color palettes you see here.

My original design, which I fought for (and failed miserably to get approved) paid homage to the original photo I used to trace and vectorize the original poster mockup. Remnants that poster which still remain in the final design and the original photo was taken by legendary UK rock photographer Martyn Goddard. It was used in the artwork and sleeve of my favorite The Cure album, “Three Imaginary Boys”, released in 1979.
